Wie ik ben?
Mijn naam is Betty vd Westelaken en sinds mijn kindertijd schilder en teken ik al graag.
Ik ben geboren en opgegroeid in het Brabantse Meierij-dorp Schijndel, maar verhuisde in 1987 samen met mijn gezin naar Haelen in het Limburgse Leudal met zijn mooie natuurgebied en glooiende beekdalen.
Ik ben autodidact, heb geen kunstopleiding gedaan, maar volgde een aantal cursussen zoals "Famous Artists School" van Norman Rockwell en Illustratief tekenen van de LOI. Ik schilder met acryl en olieverf en met aquarel en gebruik liefst vrolijke, heldere kleuren.
Mijn inspiratie haal ik vooral uit de natuur, ik schilder ook dieren en mensen maar liefst als onderdeel van het landschap. Mijn stijl noem ik realistisch met een vleugje nostalgie en romantiek.
Naast schilderen op doek en aquarelpapier beschilder ik ook stenen die ik in de natuur vind, ik noem ze mijn "LivingStones" omdat ik ze vaak beschilder met dieren. Ook maak ik kleine, persoonlijke schilderstukjes voor speciale gelegenheden zoals een bruiloft, geboorte of speciale verjaardag.
Sinds mijn pensioen ben ik ieder jaar een aantal maanden in Griekenland, al vele jaren het geliefde vakantieland van mijn man en mij en ik probeer daar de prachtige ruige natuur, de vele tinten blauw van de zee en de vriendelijke bevolking op mijn schilderdoek vast te leggen.
Mijn lieve griekse Familie gaf me toestemming om mijn werk te exposeren in hun restaurant op de camping en vele zijn gekocht door toeristen en locals en hangen nu door heel Europa heen en zelfs een in Australië!
My story, who I am?
My name is Betty vd Westelaken and since my early childhood I love to draw and paint.
I was born in Brabant, but since 1987 I have my habitat in the south of the Netherlands, in Leudal with its beautifull green nature and small rivers flooting trough the landscape.
I am autodidact, wich means I have no education in art, but during the years I did some courses like "Famous Artists School" by Norman Rockwell and Illustration by LOI. I paint with acryl and oil and with aquarel and I love to use bright colors.
Nature is a great source of inspiration for me to paint landscapes but I also love to do animals and people, special when they are part of the landscape. My style; I call it realistic with a touch of nostalgic and romance.
Beside my paintings on canvas and aquarel I also paint on stones which I find in nature, I call them my "LivingStones" because mostly I decorate them with animals and pets. I also make small personal paintings as a gift for special events such as weddings, a new baby or a special birthday.
Since my pension I stay every year for a few months in Greece, wich is for many years the favorite second homeland for my husband and me. I love to put the beautifull nature, the coastline with all colors of green and blue and its friendly people to my paintings.
My dear greek Family gave me permission to expose my paintings in their restaurant at the campsite and many of them are bought by tourists and locals, so they hang all over Europe and even one of them in Australië!
